How IELTS Exam is conducted
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam is standardized to evaluate a candidate’s proficiency in the English language. Below is an overview of the process:
Registration: Candidates must register online or at an authorized center and choose a test date. There are two types of IELTS: Academic (for study purposes) and General Training (for work or migration). A fee is required to confirm the booking.
Test Format: The exam consists of four sections:
– Listening (30 minutes): Candidates listen to audio recordings and answer questions.
– Reading (60 minutes): This section includes passages with comprehension-based questions.
– Writing (60 minutes): Candidates complete two tasks, which may include essay writing and report or letter writing.
– Speaking (11–14 minutes): This is a face-to-face interview with an examiner.
Test Day Procedure
– Arrival: Candidates should arrive at the test center at the scheduled time with valid identification (usually a passport).
– Verification: Biometric verification (photo and fingerprint) and security checks will be conducted.
– Order: The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests are administered in a single sitting, lasting about 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Speaking test is scheduled either on the same day or within a week before or after the other sections.
Speaking Test
The Speaking test is conducted as a one-on-one interview, which includes:
– Introduction and Interview: Basic questions about personal topics.
– Cue Card Task: Candidates are given a topic and must speak for 2 minutes about it.
– Discussion: Follow-up questions related to the cue card topic.
