Canada offers several programs for immigrants to live and work in Canada. Canada has over 60 visa programs from which you can choose. You can choose from various immigration programs for Permanent or Temporary residence.

For most of the immigration programs offered by Canada, An English language proficiency test (IELTS) is required. However, some programs don’t require English language proficiency tests or low scores, such as Visitor Visa or Work Visa and family sponsorship programs.  

In most immigration programs, the Canadian government uses the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). Some immigration programs require a low CLB level of four, and others require as high as a CLB level of 7 or 8.

Canadian immigration department approves the following language tests for skilled worker applications:

For English

  • CELPIP General Test
  • IELTS General Training

For French

  • TEF Canada: Test d’évaluation de français
  • TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français

There are also some programs which do not require any English language proficiency test (IELTS). Some of these programs are: 

  • Family Sponsorship
  • Visitor Visa
  • Nova Scotia PNP
  • Study Visa (few Universities)

 

Family Sponsorship Program: Family Sponsorship is the second largest category in immigration. Canada offers Family Sponsorship to Spouses, Children, Parents and Grandparents. Also, you can sponsor other family members like Sister, Brother, Niece or Nephew. Canadian family sponsorship allows you to bring your family and get a permanent residence.

Eligibility for sponsorship:

To sponsor your family, the following requirements are a must for immigration to Canada without IELTS:

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • 18 years of age or older
  • You have to meet or exceed the Low-Income Cut-off (LICO)

To apply for family sponsorship, both you and your family member should meet the eligibility criteria. Your PR application will also be reviewed in the process. To sponsor your family members, you should provide the legal documents required by Canadian immigration.

For child sponsorship, the child should be under the age of 22 years and should be unmarried. To sponsor your parents or grandparents, both you and your law partner can apply.

Also, you can sponsor your parents and grandparents through the Super Visa program, which allows them to have multiple entry visas for up to 10 years.

Visitor Visa (Tourist Visa): Canada is a beautiful country to visit. Canada has many natural wonders, from lush green lands to the beautiful Rocky Mountains, beautiful lakes, rivers and the world-famous Niagara Falls. Also, the historical monuments have a beautiful sites.

Tourists can visit Canada to have Leisure time. If someone from your family is living in Canada, you can visit them, and people also visit Canada for Business purposes.

A Canadian tourist visa is a simple process but a lot of applications get rejected due to incorrect or incomplete forms. You also need to provide sufficient documents for a visitor Visa. 

For a successful visa application, the applicant must fulfil all the conditions. The documents required for a Canadian visitor visa are::

  • A valid Passport (Not Expired)
  • Applicants should provide a complete health Checkup record.
  • No criminal record.
  • Sufficient funds are proof to stay in Canada with financial resources. 
  • Proper Schedule for your stay in Canada.
  • Applicants should also provide documents for their present job. 

To grant a tourist visa, the visa officer must ensure that you are visiting Canada for travelling purposes only. If you are an employee of a company, give your employment records, and if you have land or properties, you must provide proof of them.

For the students, ID cards are mandatory and retired applicants should show their pension slips and retirement proofs along with the above documents for tourist visas.

Nova Scotia PNP: Nova Scotia’s Provincial Nominee Program requires low or no language requirements. Other Provinces providing federal skilled worker’s programs have the requirements of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

IELTS is required to prove language proficiency so that during their stay, they are able to communicate with their boss, coworkers, their neighbours and Doctors. In the Nova Scotia PNP program, this is not essential.  

Nova Scotia PNP skilled worker stream requires only written proof to explain that the applicant met the minimum standard of Level 5 on the Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB). For the purpose of providing proof of language proficiency, only Educational transcripts or Employment history in English or French as the main language are required. 

This program relieves stress from many applicants. With the help of this program, many skilled workers can live and work in Canada. In Nova Scotia, English language proficiency test is  only required for Nova Scotia’s Express Entry programs.

Studying in Canada Without IELTS: Most Canadian Universities require an English Language proficiency test (IELTS) for admission there are also some Universities which don’t. There are many universities and colleges that do not require this language proficiency test for admission. 

For admission without IELTS, students must provide proof of English as a medium of their education for a minimum of five years. This program is mainly for students with English as one of their primary languages. 

The admission process is more difficult for students who don’t have IELTS than for those who have IELTS scores. Most Universities have their criteria and conduct their evaluation test for language proficiency. You can get admission only after you meet the criteria set by the university for admission.
