You should spend a maximum of 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: 

The image provides information about when the 50 U.S. states reached statehood.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

The diagram shows the admission dates of U.S. states into the Union, categorized by various time periods from 1787 to 1959. The map highlights the states using color codes to represent each period of statehood.

The first category covers the original 13 states, which ratified the Constitution between 1787 and 1790. These states are located primarily along the eastern seaboard. The subsequent category includes states admitted between 1791 and 1800, mostly found near the original 13, expanding westward.

From 1801 to 1850, a significant number of states in the Midwest and the South were incorporated. The period from 1851 to 1900 saw the western part of the country, including states like California and Nevada, becoming part of the Union. Finally, the last two states, Alaska and Hawaii, were admitted in 1959.

The U.S. states were gradually admitted, with the eastern states joining earlier and the western and non-contiguous regions entering later in history.
