IELTS General
The IELTS General Training test format is also divided into four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The test lasts for two hours and forty-five minutes in total as well.
The Listening section consists of four recorded conversations or monologues, and you’ll need to answer 40 questions in total. The recordings cover a range of everyday topics and situations, and the difficulty level gradually increases. You’ll have 30 minutes to complete this section. It is the same as IELTS Academic Listening.
The Reading section consists of three passages and you’ll need to answer 40 questions in total. The passages are taken from sources such as newspapers, magazines, and advertisements. The difficulty level increases gradually from passage to passage. You’ll have 60 minutes to complete this section.
The Writing section consists of two tasks. Task 1 requires you to write a letter in response to a given situation or problem, while Task 2 requires you to write an essay in response to a prompt related to a general topic. You’ll have 60 minutes to complete both tasks.
The Speaking section is a face-to-face interview with a trained examiner, divided into three parts: an introduction and interview, an individual long turn, and a two-way discussion. The test assesses your ability to communicate effectively in spoken English. You’ll have 11-14 minutes to complete this section.
The IELTS General Training test format is designed to assess your ability to use English in everyday contexts, such as work or social situations. The test is scored on a scale of 0-9, with a separate score given for each section, and an overall score based on the average of the four sections.
