The graph illustrates global resource extraction trends across four material categories – biomass, fossil fuels, metal ores, and non-metallic minerals – from 1970 to 2024, measured in billion tonnes.

The data demonstrates a consistent upward trajectory in total resource extraction, with the aggregate volume increasing from approximately 30 billion tonnes in 1970 to over 100 billion tonnes by 2024. Non-metallic minerals exhibit the most substantial growth among all categories, particularly accelerating from 2000 onwards.
