Ielts Academic Writing Task 1 Sample 72
You should spend a maximum of 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic:
The image provides information about the maximum operating speed and top speed record of trains worldwide (in km/h).
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.
The image presents data on the world’s fastest trains, comparing their maximum operating speeds and speed records. The Shanghai Maglev tops the list with a maximum operating speed of 460 km/h and a speed record of 501 km/h, significantly outpacing other trains.
Chinese trains dominate the upper rankings, with CR Harmony and CR Fuxing both achieving 350 km/h. European trains follow closely, with Germany’s DB Intercity Express 3 matching the 350 km/h speed, and France’s SNCF TGV reaching 320 km/h. Japan’s JR Shinkansen operates at 320 km/h, while Italy’s ONCF Al Boraq and Spain’s Renfe AVE 103 operate at 320 km/h and 310 km/h respectively.
Notable disparities exist between operating speeds and speed records for some trains. The SNCF TGV, for instance, has a speed record of 575 km/h, substantially higher than its operating speed. Similar differences are observed for the DB Intercity Express 3 and Renfe AVE 103.
The data includes two additional trains with lower speeds: Amtrak Acela from the United States (257 km/h) and NHSRCL bullet train, presumably from India (220 km/h). These entries highlight the global nature of high-speed rail development, albeit with varying levels of advancement across different regions.
