Ielts GT Writing Task 2 Sample 9

Some people believe that the traditional approach in the modern classroom is better than a teaching methodology based on experiential learning. Do you agree or disagree?

Although many people claim that the traditional approach to teaching is more effective in the modern classroom, others support the experiential learning-based methodology.

I disagree with the notion that the traditional approach is superior to an experiential learning-based teaching methodology, as the latter promotes active engagement, critical thinking, and practical application of knowledge. I will discuss the reasons for my view in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, experiential learning fosters increased student engagement. Rather than relying solely on lectures and textbooks, this approach encourages hands-on experiences, real-life simulations, and interactive activities.

Students actively participate in their own learning process, which enhances motivation and improves information retention. For instance, conducting science experiments, engaging in group projects, or participating in field trips provide students with opportunities to apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations, making learning more meaningful and enjoyable.

Similarly, experiential learning develops critical thinking skills. By engaging in activities that require problem-solving, analysis, and decision-making, students develop their ability to think critically and independently. They learn to evaluate information, consider multiple perspectives, and make informed judgments.

In contrast to the traditional approach, which often focuses on rote memorization, experiential learning encourages students to think creatively, ask questions, and develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter. This equips them with essential skills that are valuable in various academic and professional contexts.

In conclusion, the traditional approach to teaching cannot be considered superior to an experiential learning-based methodology. Experiential learning promotes active engagement, critical thinking, and practical application of knowledge. By providing students with hands-on experiences and encouraging them to think independently, this approach prepares them for the challenges of the modern world.

Note: This is a sample answer, and there are various perspectives and sentences that can be used to discuss the advantages of experiential learning and its effectiveness compared to the traditional approach.
