The data illustrates the distribution of global payments processed through SWIFT by currency in August 2024, based on transaction values.

The United States Dollar (USD) exhibits clear dominance in global transactions, accounting for 43.1% of all SWIFT payments. The Euro (EUR) emerges as the second most utilized currency, representing 21.6% of global transactions, less than half the USD’s share.

The British Pound (GBP) holds the third position at 6.5%, followed by the Chinese Yuan (CNY) at 5.2% and the Japanese Yen (JPY) at 4.0%. The Canadian Dollar (CAD) and Australian Dollar (AUD) maintain modest shares of 2.4% and 1.7% respectively.

The Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) comprises 1.6% of global SWIFT payments, while other currencies collectively account for 13.9% of transactions. This distribution pattern underscores the USD’s substantial role in international financial transactions, with all other individual currencies maintaining significantly smaller shares of global payments.
