Ielts GT Writing Task 1 Sample 35
Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper regarding the issue of air pollution in your city. Include:
- Concerns about the current air quality.
- Effects of air pollution on health and the environment.
- Suggested measures to reduce air pollution.
Dear Mr. Halpert,
I am writing to express my deep concerns about the alarming issue of air pollution that plagues our city. The current air quality has reached a critical point, posing severe risks to both public health and the environment. Through a section of your esteemed newspaper, I would want the general public to be aware of this issue.
The deteriorating air quality in our city is a matter of grave concern. We often experience smog-filled skies, and the air has become laden with pollutants, including particulate matter and toxic gases.
These pollutants have been linked to a rise in respiratory diseases, including asthma and bronchitis, among residents, particularly the vulnerable, such as children and the elderly.
Moreover, air pollution has dire consequences for our environment. It contributes to global warming, damages vegetation, and harms wildlife. Our once lush green city is now witnessing declining tree cover and deteriorating ecosystems, impacting the overall quality of life for its inhabitants.
To address this crisis, we must take immediate and concerted action. I propose the following measures to reduce air pollution:
- Promote the use of public transportation and encourage the adoption of electric or hybrid vehicles.
- Enforce stricter regulations on industrial emissions and encourage cleaner production methods.
- Enhance green spaces and urban forests to act as natural air purifiers.
- Raise public awareness through campaigns about the importance of reducing individual carbon footprints.
It is imperative that we prioritize the fight against air pollution for the sake of our health, environment, and future generations. Together, we can work toward cleaner air and a healthier, more sustainable city.
I hope you will use your voice to create this awareness.
Yours sincerely,
Howard Bighead
