Most people think that Is PTE better than IELTS? Some people disagree too.  These exams test your reading, writing, speaking, and listening ability. You should think about whether you are more comfortable speaking to a computer or a human being, regarding the speaking section.

The IELTS test can be either paper-based or it can be computer-based. While the PTE is always completed on a computer. IELTS:

The full form IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures your proficiency in the English language. It tests your four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.  On a scale of one to nine you are then awarded a grade. The two forms of IELTS are IELTS Academic and IELTS General. 

IELTS Academic: it is for those applying for higher education or professional registration. It has a larger focus on academic language.

IELTS General: It is more broadly used, and it checks your general use of the English language. It also sees whether you would be able to cope in a social and general workplace context. It is also used for those who are applying for secondary education.

All about IELTS exam details:

It stands for The International English Language Testing System. It was established in 1989.  In the year 2017, 3 million have appeared for the IELTS examination in 140 countries. Score of IELTS  is valid for upto 2 years. Through-out the year the IELTS exams are conducted 4 times in a month.

The score band of IELTS ranges from 1-9.  The IELTS examination is  for 2 hours, 45 minutes.  The IELTS exam is divided into two sections.  First one is IELTS Academic and the other is IELTS General Training. IELTS General Training is for individuals who are looking to migrate or settle in another country.

The IELTS is divided into the following sections: 

  • Listening – 30 minutes 
  • Academic Reading – 60 minutes 
  • General Training Reading – 60 minutes 
  • Academic Writing – 60 minutes 
  • General Academic Writing – 60 minutes 
  • Speaking – 11 to 15 minutes 

PTE:

Pearson Test of English Academic is the full form of PTE. By all Australian universities it is accepted as proof of English ability. It is also accepted by the Department of Home Affairs for all visa categories that require proof of English language proficiency. The test is taken on a computer. The PTE test is divided into three parts. 

  • Speaking and Writing.
  • Reading.
  • Listening.

Your results are assessed using automated scoring technology. 10 and 90 are the scores that are awarded to test-takers. The Global Scale of English is 10-90 scale. 

PEOPLE THINK THAT PTE IS EASIER THAN IELTS:

There are number of people who think that PTE is easier than IELTS due to these reasons. IELTS has been around for much longer as compared to PTE. This is the first reason.

Your score is only valid for 2-3 years, there are plenty of people who have previously taken IELTS one or more times before taking the PTE test. Many people get a higher score in PTE than IELTS so, they consider PTE much easier. Result of increased experience and preparation is that it improves the score.

And it is also because they have taken multiple English language tests. PTE is also easy because the test contains several tasks that a lot of people find easy. For example writing from dictation. PTE is 100% machine-scored and removes human error. In IELTS the speaking section is done face to face. They find PTE to be a less stressful option. 

The PTE test is shorter than the IELTS. In PTE there is no need to maintain energy and concentration for as long, it doesn’t necessarily affect your score. IELTS and PTE are two English based exams. They are divided into four categories:

  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Writing
  • Reading

IELTS VS PTE:

The main difference between IELTS and PTE is that IELTS is a paper based exam, where you read and write your answers on paper, and the PTE is a totally computer based exam. In IELTS the speaking part takes the form of an interview, and in the PTE you simply speak to the computer.

PTE has a maximum score of 90. ITELS has a maximum score of 9.0. The speaking part contains a graphs, charts section where you have 25 seconds to study it. The image takes 40 seconds to explain. 

IELTS exam consist of 4 parts:

First one is Listening. It is for about 30 minutes.You will listen to four recordings of native speakers. After that you’ll need to answer 40 questions. Second part is academic reading.

It is for about 60 minutes. You will read 3 texts. And then you’ll have to answer 40 questions. Thirdly is academic writing. It is 60 minutes. There are 2 tasks. First one, you have to describe a graph, table, chart etc. Second, you need to write an essay as a response to a point of view, problems. Write in a formal style for both tasks. Fourth comes speaking. It is for  about 11-14 minutes. 

The PTE Test of English has 3 parts:

First is speaking & writing. It is for around 54 – 67 minutes. You’ll have to complete several tasks, including introducing yourself, reading aloud, describing an image, summarizing a text, writing an essay etc. Second is the reading.

This one is for about 29 – 30 minutes. You’ll have to complete tasks like filling in the blanks, answering multiple-choice questions etc. Third is the listening part. It is for 30 – 43 minutes. You’ll have to answer a series of questions after listening or watching audio or video clips.
